9 Cozy Things To Do Indoors During Winter (Free Art Printable Included!)

Are you trying to keep your family occupied during these cold winter hours? Maybe trying to figure out some things to do indoors during winter? Because I have the best ideas for you!

things to do indoors during winter

Keeping all of your family members from getting bored (especially the kiddos) can get extremely difficult during the winter. The sun sets early, leaving out the option of going outside.

The days are short and it’s tough to find things to do indoors. This is why I have put together some ideas that just might help you out!

These ideas will help you during cozy evenings with your family or even when you have company over! I hope you will enjoy them as much as my family does!

This post is all about the best things to do indoors during winter!

Things To Do Indoors At Home

1) Read Books

By “read books” I mean make a cozy area on the floor with lots of pillows and blankets. Add fairy lights all around to add to the coziness. Turn on some relaxing music. Prepare everyone’s favorite snacks. And of course, add a basket of everyone’s favorite short storybooks. This will be a perfect way to spend your evening while it’s snowing or raining outside.

2) Enjoy Coloring Books

You are never too old for a good coloring book! Have some on hand whenever you want a more quiet evening! As for kids, they are always up for some coloring time with their parents!

3) Have A Drawing Contest

Grab some sheets of paper, pencils, and coloring pencils, and choose an item to draw. The one who finishes first AND you can actually tell what it’s supposed to be – wins! It is a fun activity to get everyone involved! ( If it’s near the holidays there are so many Christmas things to draw and get you in the spirit of Christmas!)

4) Bake Cookies / Decorate Cookies

Who doesn’t love cookies?! Make this a family thing and get everyone to have a task! Your kids will absolutely love to be able to bake something! You can bake chocolate chip cookies or sugar cookies to decorate after! For sugar cookies use different cookie cutters for fun shapes! Use your favorite icing to personalize the cookies!

5) Build A Gingerbread House

Now, this is an activity nobody can say no to! Purchase a few gingerbread houses and have an evening set for hot chocolate, music, and gingerbread house building! This is such a great way to get festive and have fun with your family and kids near the holidays! (Take it up a notch and make it a contest!)

6) Do Family Game Night With Board Games

Board games are long forgotten in some households, don’t let it be you! Board games are great for kids and adults! They are great for an evening with your family! Take out your favorite board games, turn on some Christmas music, and there you have it! A cozy family game night!

7) Play Charades

Charades are one of my favorite games. They are bound to get the whole family laughing while trying to figure out what someone else is acting out! A great thing about charades is that you don’t need any extra equipment! Just act out something and wait for your family to guess!

8) Create Snow Globes

These are so fun to make and are perfect to do around the holidays! I will provide a list of the items you need and a brief how-to list! Creating snow globes is a great way to keep kids occupied and will make for a cute winter decoration around your home!

What You Need

  • Glass Jar
  • Flour/Sugar/Or Fake Snow
  • Fairy Lights
  • Item Of Your Choice

How To Make

  • Pour “snow” of your choice (flour/sugar/fake snow)
  • Put in the item of your choice (toy car/house/doll)
  • Place fairy lights inside the jar
  • Enjoy your very own snow globe!
9) Watch A Movie

Watching a movie with the family is a great way to wind down after a long day! Create a cozy corner with pillows and blankets. (you can also add fairy lights!) Then choose a family favorite movie to enjoy together! (and don’t forget the snacks!)

This post was all about the best things to do indoor during winter!

Remember that being stuck indoors doesn’t mean it has to be boring!

Make the best of your long winter evenings!

Choose something from the list to do every day, add your own ideas and you can always repeat your favorites!
