If you are thinking of getting a pool this year, these are the pool essentials you absolutely need!
Getting a pool can seem nerve-wracking but if you have a list to follow it will make the entire process easy and stress-free.
This summer you can enjoy the pool without worrying that it will get mucky!
For this post I interviewed my dad and asked about all the items he’s used that do the job and these items made it to the list!

1) Hayward SP1091LX Dyna-Skim Above-Ground Pool Skimmer
This works as a suction for the water, bringing the water to the pump and through the filter. It catches bigger items in the basket which you can take out and toss.
2) PowerFlo Pool Pump for Above Ground Pools, 1.5 HP
Having a good pump to pump the water to the filter is important!
3) Hayward W3S166T ProSeries Sand Filter 16 In., Top-Mount for Above-Ground Pools
This sand filter requires sand to work. Play sand works fine but Lowes sells sand specifically for pool filters which are cheaper!
The first 3 items linked are pretty standard and in order to have a working pool you will need a simmer (1), a pump (2), and a filter (3).
The choice is yours but these items linked are the ones that were used and tried! Just make sure the pump is the correct size for your pool!
4) Chlorine Feeder Chlorinator Adjustable
Not everyone uses this but this thing really helps with keeping the water clear and clean! You can add 3-4 chlorine tablets (linked below), they dissolve into the pool slowly making them last longer!
5) Pool Vacuum Head
This vacuum head has bristles on the corners which will help you reach all corners of the pool!
6) Vacuum Hose With Swivel Cuff
You will need a hose to attach from the vacuum head to the pool (for suction, at the skimmer). Any pool hose should be a good fit for the vacuum head!
7) Swimming Pool Pole
The last attachment to the vacuum is this pole that will help you guide the vacuum head all around the pool (you don’t even have to get in!)
In order to have a working vacuum you need all 3 items (vacuum head, vacuum hose, & a pool pole) They are decent priced too.
8) Professional Pool Skimmer Net
For cleaning out big items like leaves and bigger bugs, you will need a skimmer net which you can attach to the pole from the vacuum!
9) Chlorine Tablet Floater
The chlorine tablet floater keeps the chlorine tablet in while floating in the pool. It won’t get in the way of enjoying your swim!
10) In The Swim 3-inch 5-in-1 Super Multi-Tabs
The 5 in 1 super multi-tabs are not tried but are something we are looking into. These are the closest I’ve found to the tablets we used to use but they stopped selling them in bulk!
Having a good chlorine tablet really is THE key to that crystal-clear water! The tablet linked below is the tried and approved tablet that we used but they started to sell only 1 tablet instead of bulk and the price is unreasonable.
Extra Tips
- If swimming daily vacuum your pool every other morning (if not every morning)
- Always keep chlorine tablets in the chlorinator and floaties to keep a clear pool
