5 ways to stop procrastinating
1) Time Yourself
how to stop procrastinating and get things done
The number one thing that seems to help me, is timing myself. I am a procrastinator that feels as if I accomplished a lot simply by starting a task.
This causes me to lose focus and take a very long time to get things done. To fix this problem, I started turning on the timer. (or stopwatch)
This way I am focused on beating the clock rather than getting distracted.
So next time you have something that needs to be complicated, whether a chore or some work, time yourself and see how much more you are able to get done.
2) Take Frequent Short Breaks
If you have a lot of things to complete during your day, it will help to take a 5-minute break every 25-30 minutes. Doing so will help you be less distracted.
You’ll have something to look forward to while getting your things done. It’s a very small but useful thing that will help you waste less time.
3) Eliminate Phone
Maybe you are catching yourself scrolling through your phone while organizing a cabinet or getting some work done.
Try putting your phone away until you complete a certain task.
Screen time is an extreme time waster and will make you a procrastinator without having you notice.
4) Rewards DURING The Task
If a reward can push you to complete your task, give yourself one during it. For example a coffee or another drink you enjoy.
It will help you stay energized while doing your work and chores. Another simple yet effective idea.
5) Don’t Think About The Next Task You Have To Do
Maybe you have a few things on your to-do list that you have to tackle, but while you are doing one, you are already dreading the other.
Stop and allow yourself to focus on just one task at a time. This will help you complete all of your items on your to-do list without letting yourself dread it.
6) Think About How Completing This Task Will Benifit
Whether it’s a task that will benefit you in 1 year, 3 years, or just 30 minutes, it is better to complete it right away.
Doing this will save you time and get you extra time for other things on your to-do list.
