How To Organize Your Linen Closet In 7 Simple Steps

Are you wanting to figure out how to organize your linen closet in a way that stays clean? I have the best tips and steps that will help you achieve just that!

how to organize your linen closet

Linen closets tend to get messy pretty easily and pretty fast. Since it’s not a closet or space guests will usually see, it’s easily forgotten.

Towels get thrown in, bedsheets get crumbled in, and when it’s time for you to grab a clean towel or bedsheet, you find yourself digging all around the closet with no luck.

Maybe you have realized that enough is enough, but you’re not sure where to start. It’s difficult to see where to start when there’s so much stuff going on.

It might frustrate you seeing the mess but not knowing what to do about it. I came up with some of the best tips and steps that have helped and continue to help me get a cleaned-out closet. Follow along to achieve the neatest linen closet everyone will swoon over!

This post is all about the best tips on how to organize your linen closet!

How To Organize Your Linen Closet

1) Empty Out The Shelves

Take out all of your towels, bedsheets, baskets, toilet paper, and anything else you keep in your closet. Starting out fresh always helps you see the bigger picture. Emptying out the closet will help you see the shelves and figure out if you will be rearranging any of your items. You will be able to decide where you will put everything much easier with emptied-out shelves.

2) Wipe Down The Shelves

Since a linen closet is something we don’t clean out often, you will find a lot of dust on the shelves. Make sure to grab a wet rag and wipe down all the shelves and containers you will be using thoroughly. Wiping down everything will refresh everything before moving down to the next step.

3) Fold All Of Your Towels And Linens/Bedsheets

After your closet has been emptied out and wiped down clean, your next step is to fold all of your items. Most items in a linen closet consist of towels and bedsheets. Make sure to neatly fold all different size towels accordingly to fit perfectly on the shelves.

4) Use The Rolling Method

This step or tip goes along with step number three. While you fold all of your items, try out the rolling method on your biggest (or smallest towels!) It is very simple and helps your towels stay neater for a much longer period of time and it looks aesthetically pleasing! Use the simple directions provided below!

Directions For The Rolling Method:

  1. Fold Towel In Half Horizontally
  2. Fold Vertically
  3. Roll It Up

Yes, it really is that simple and looks great!

5) Use Baskets And Metal Crates

Towels tend to stay pretty neat and folded by themselves. (probably the only items that do!) They don’t really need baskets, but if you want to take the extra step and use baskets or metal crates- you will not regret it! Using baskets or crates will create a much neater look and sort out everything for you. This can help towels from tumbling over! I used short woven baskets (I’ll admit came from a chocolate gift) just to dived my face towels from the hand towels. And a metal crate for my tiny cleaning towels. Doing so gives the closet a much neater look.

6) Put Everything Back On The Shelves

After everything is folded the way that works best for you, it is time to put everything back on the shelves. Decide which towels or bedsheets will sit where. You can divide each shelf to each have different size towels on there or you can put multiple on one shelf and use baskets or crates to dived them. Since bedsheets are a bit more difficult to fold compared to towels, I would recommend using a basket to store them in. I also recommend doing this for things like cleaning supplies or toilet paper.

7) Remember Now Everything Has A Spot

Now, this is the last tip, remember that everything now has a spot. After doing laundry or using cleaning supplies, be sure to put all items back to their designated spot! Doing this will help you keep your closet clean and organized!
