If you have ever wondered how to keep your home clutter-free, you are NOT alone.
Whether we want to admit it or not, our space can clutter up pretty quickly. Especially if the space is towards the smaller side.
It’s in our human nature to want to buy more things that we think are useful or simply because we came across an item that is on sale and you just might need it.
Without realizing it, our storage spaces fill up quickly, our closets overflow, (with nothing to wear), and our home starts to feel less relaxing and a bit more cluttered and stuffy.
Just recently I personally decided that enough is enough and I have to do something!
I came up with a simple list that I follow and now I want to share some of the things that have helped me achieve a home that is less cluttered and more easily manageable!
I hope you find these tips just as useful!
This post is all about how to keep your home clutter-free!
How To Keep Your Home Clutter Free

1) Buy An Item = Bye, Item
This might be the most important rule of all. As I mentioned earlier, we humans love to buy new things! Clothes, home decor, kitchen items, and so forth.
And we forget to do one simple thing. To get rid of our old items. We buy, and buy, and buy. Of course, things will start piling up!
Put into your mind that if you are buying a new decor piece, then toss or donate an old item. Hence the “BUY an item =BYE, item” name.
The same goes with clothes and every other item that you are wanting to buy for your home.
Not only will this rule help you stay clutter-free, but it will also be a big money saver because you will be thinking twice if you are ready to part with something you have at home!
2) Donate Small Things Often
Since my husband and I started looking into purchasing our first home, I started thinking about packing which had me think about how much stuff we have that we don’t really need.
I decided that every time I am deep cleaning a space, (like a room or pantry), I will donate an item that hasn’t been used in a while. It will help you stay on track with organizing and decluttering.
This will also keep you from hoarding things that just need to go!
3) Do A Home Declutter Twice A Year
I got this rule when watching a youtube video about decluttering and grasped it for myself.
Do an emphasis on decluttering your home twice a year. The most common times would be during deep cleaning or what they call Spring cleaning and Fall cleaning.
Doing this will help you welcome the warmer days with a clean home the same as welcoming the upcoming cold days with a clean home.
When you are doing your deep cleaning, have bags or boxes ready to be filled up with donations. Often we have clothes we no longer wear or toys that our children no longer play with.
Make sure to donate those items to prevent things from cluttering up.
Bonus Tip
Every once in a while, don’t allow yourself to purchase items that you want, (clothes, decor, toys) and only allow yourself to buy items you need or that will help you.
For example, next time you go shopping, instead of buying a new decor piece, purchase an organizing bin that will help you organize a space in your home.
This might also work as motivation to declutter your home.
