Okay. How many of us can actually say, that they’re perfectly happy and at peace with their life? Maybe you can. But it’s something that I’m still figuring out. Learning how to be content in life is an everlasting process.
There are a few people that I’ve met in my life who walk with confidence. And I’m not talking about confidence caused by a good hair day or a nice outfit.
I’m talking about the confidence that some might call God-confidence. That type of confidence is something I strive to have and envy those that do. (in the best non-evil way possible)
It’s the type of confidence that tells you that person is content in their life – even if they don’t have it all.
While I am still in the learning process of it all, I want to share some of the things that I am learning along the way.
I hope you will find them just as soothing and helpful.
This post is all about how to be content in life.
How To Be Content In Life
*Disclaimer: This advice is no-way professional advice, just tips that have helped me!*
1) LET YOUR MIND HEAL
First and foremost, if you are trying to be content in life or with life you have to let your mind heal.
Here is what I mean by letting your mind heal. If you are in a season of life that is difficult for you, or in a waiting period, and you’re finding it hard to get by through the day, let yourself be.
If you want to lay in bed and not do anything, let yourself. BUT slowly allow yourself to feel better.
For example; hypothetically speaking you broke your leg. You won’t try walking the very next day or a couple of hours later. No, you get a cast and slowly ease yourself back into walking.
The same goes for your mind and heart. Let yourself feel the emotions, the sadness, and then slowly ease yourself to the next steps.
2) STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS
how to be content with yourself
I am coming in hot with this one! In case this is what’ll get you to keep scrolling 😉
I’ll be honest. This one is the most difficult one for me.
Stop comparing yourself to others is way easier said than done. BUT, once you’ve got this one figured out you are more than halfway to being content in life.
Here is what I mean by, stop comparing yourself to others.
If you have ever caught yourself feeling sad at a certain event because you have not yet experienced it, you are comparing yourself to the main person of the event.
You have to remember that EVERYONE’S STORY IS DIFFERENT.
I recently heard or read this saying “don’t compare your first chapter to someone’s tenth“. And that quote really stuck with me.
Often times we (me being the first guilty one) get upset and discouraged that someone is in a different season of life than we are.
And because of that, we constantly try to catch up.
STOP.
You won’t ever catch up because THAT IS NOT YOUR STORY.
Your life and your story are the most special because it is yours and yours alone.
Slowly start this process and whenever you get a thought like this, stop it immediately.
And remember like all things, this will take time to achieve, but you will achieve it!
3) PRACTICE GRATITUDE
how to be content with what you have
You will be pleasantly surprised to see how well this one works. With lots of practice of course.
Find things in your day to be grateful for, even if it’s just one thing. Write it on a post-it and put it somewhere you can see it throughout the entire day.
This will help you keep your focus on something happy and something you have in your life.
As more days go by, add a second thing to the list.
There might be days with just one thing written down and others with 5, but like mentioned earlier it is a learning process and soon you will start seeing your life through a different lens.
4) ALLOW YOURSELF TO LIVE IN THE MOMENT
happy and contented with my life
Often I will find myself thinking, wow this moment would be so much better if I had this or that.
These types of thoughts are exactly the things that rob us of living in the now.
They don’t allow us to live in the moment because we are too focused on something we wish we had.
This moment will pass and you might find yourself regretting not enjoying it.
Clear your mind and allow yourself to enjoy the season you are in right now.
5) FIND STRENGTH IN PRAYER AND SCRIPTURE
how to become content with your life
Finding strength in prayer and scripture is something I hold dear to my heart and don’t know how I would be without it.
Whenever you are overcome with the feeling of discouragement and sadness, turn to prayer or open up the Bible.
In prayer, you can talk to God like He is your closest friend- because he is!
Ask Him for strength and for His peace and happiness. Watch your mindset change even tho your situation hasn’t. Soon enough content will find you!
This post is all about how to be content in life.
Let’s recap; there are 4 main keys to learning to be content.
- Let Your Mind Heal, 2. Stop Comparing Yourself To Others, 3. Practice Gratitude, 4. Allow Yourself To Live In The Moment, 5. Find Strength In Prayer And Scripture.
As I mentioned earlier I am still learning to incorporate all of these points into my life. But they seem to be the key to finding inner peace and contentment.
And I’m going to sound like a broken record, but it really is a learning process. You won’t become content with your life overnight and some days will be better than others. But you will get there.
I hope you found these tips just as useful as I did. Let me know which one was your favorite in the comment section below.
I look forward to hearing from you:)
