The beginning of the school year is an exciting time for parents (not so much the kids).

It’s a fresh start for everyone and you might be looking at how to make it as organized and stress-free as possible.

Well, I dived into the internet to find you some of the best hacks that will not only keep your sanity but your children’s sanity as well!

back to school hacks for parents

1) Start An Early Bed Time & Wake Up Time A Week Before School Starts

During Summer break kids (and parents) get used to going to bed a bit later which means waking up later too.

To start getting their body ready for early wake-ups, set an earlier bedtime and wakeup time about a week before school to help the kids’ bodies with the change!

2) Use A Hanging Shoe Shelf To Set Out Clothes For The Week

I saw this hack on Tik Tok and absolutely had to share!

  1. Purchase a hanging shoe shelf to hang in your child’s closet.
  2. Every Sunday evening, pick out clothes for the following school week.
  3. Use the shoe slots to fit one outfit per slot ( 1 Slot= 1 Day of the week)
  4. Easy hassle free mornings for you and your child!

3) Leave Backpacks And Shoes By The Door The Night Before

Every night before school, set your child’s backpack and shoes by the door. This way they are ready to run out the door during a busy morning!

4) Keep A Hair Box In The Car

If you have multiple children then you know how hectic mornings can get. You never know which morning you might find yourself running late to drop off. For mornings like these, you will appreciate a “hair box”.

A hair box is any small plastic container or bin that holds:

  1. hairbrush
  2. hair tie
  3. hairclip

This type of box will help you out tremendously in those emergency mornings!

5) Use Frozen Water Bottles For Cold Water All Day

If your kid enjoys taking an iced water bottle to school but deals with small ice cubes melting by the end of the day, you will love this hack!

  1. Fill up a water bottle halfway
  2. Put a water bottle in the freezer laying on the side overnight
  3. In the morning fill it all with water
  4. Enjoy iced cold water all day long!

6) Use A Clear Over-The-Door Shoe Organizer For Snacks

Kids love snacks and the school day passes a little quicker if they have them! Use a clear over-the-door shoe organizer to organize their snacks.

  1. 1 slot is per child per day
  2. Fill up a slot with a drink and snack for the day
  3. Children can take everything in the slot for the day and enjoy it!

7) Use Frozen Sponges As Ice Packs For Lunches

Ice packs can be slightly bulky and take up a lot of room in a lunch box. Use a sponge to avoid that!

  1. Get a kitchen sponge
  2. Wet it
  3. Put into bag
  4. Freeze it and use it!

8) Meal Prep For School Lunches

If your kids take lunches to school, meal prep them in advance and freeze them! The night before school or the morning before heat up and pack up! Saves you a lot of time!

9) Create A Homework Station

You might find your child asking for a pencil or scissors since they left theirs at school.

Create a homework station using a caddy or a rolling cart! Keep all school supplies in one spot to make homework time easier for you and them!

10) Create An Area To Hang Up Backpacks (after school)

Kids love to chunk their backpacks on the floor as soon as they hit the door. Creating hooks near the door will help prevent the school bags from being all over the place!

Hang a hook for each child and let them know that that is their designated backpack spot! Keep reminding them and before you know it they’ll be doing it without you asking!
