Moving into a new home is stressful as is, and if you put a different state in the mix, it takes it to a whole other level.
The biggest question I had in my mind during the beginning process, was when exactly do you start packing your things into boxes.
I hope I can answer this question for you and help you stay at peace when moving, whether across the street or cross country!

Short Answer:
Get rid of unnecessary (declutter) items 2-3 months before moving. Start packing 1 month before moving.
Long Answer:
As soon as you find out that you have a move planned somewhere in the near future, it is smart to start decluttering your home.
Every corner, closet, and room needs to be looked through. Years of living in the same home can cause clutter to build up.
You will find things that you no longer use and they need to be donated! Starting to pack in a decluttered home will save you heaps of stress and time.
This is a very important step in moving and shouldn’t be overlooked! After your home is decluttered, I would suggest starting to pack up the house no later than 1 month before the big move.
Having a month to focus on moving will help you take your time, with every room. For example, you can pack up your entire kitchen and leave only the things needed daily, (a pan, plastic plates & plastic silverware).
If you go by this rule, you won’t find yourself stressed out and packing things a day before moving out!
So if you are a month out before moving, start packing up room by room. Take it one day at a time and before you know it, the moving day will be there!
