You might’ve heard the phrase less is more and have decided to give it a shot. But maybe you are a bit confused about how it can actually be better and that’s where I come in.

I’m not much of a minimalist myself but recently kind of fell into it without meaning to and I loved it. Here is what I mean.
Since we have recently decided on moving out of our apartment I have slowly started to declutter and put away items we don’t use often or items we don’t use at all.
The other day when I opened my cupboard to grab a mug I noticed how clean and refreshed it looked.
No extra mugs or glasses, just items we use every day. And I thought why didn’t I do this sooner?! And since then I’ve been noticing so many benefits of this decluttering and packing spree!
This is why I am hoping to share some with you and maybe it’ll help your decision of deciding if less really is more!
This post is all about how less is more!

less is more examples
1) No More Unnecessary Items
I noticed that my drawers were often filled with stuff I had no use for or simply stuff that didn’t have its own spot.
These are often called “junk drawers”. They usually contain items such as random batteries, markers, tape, etc.
Sometimes it causes you not to know what you actually have. For example; I kept buying tape because I thought I didn’t have any until I found a bunch at the bottom of a drawer covered with items not used.
Once you declutter and get rid of items you are not using you won’t have a thing called a “junk drawer”.
2) Cleaner Home
Obviously, with fewer items at home, your house will stop getting messy so quickly. No more unclaimed toys or art supplies all over your living room floor!
3) Everything Has A Spot
With fewer items, it is easier to assign everything to its own spot. You won’t be trying to stuff as many items as possible into your closet because you will only have necessary items with places for them to be
4) Easier When Moving
This is where it all started for me. I decided not to wait till we had less than a month to move but to slowly declutter and pack away what we don’t use as often.
That is when I realized we had SO many things we simply did not need and they were just taking up space and cluttering everything up.
When you have fewer items, moving to a different house (or simply just packing for vacation) becomes that much easier.
It saves the time of throwing things out before the move and all you have to do is box up the things you KNOW you will use.
5) Kids Don’t Get Overwhelmed When Cleaning Up Toys
I saw a video where a mom was struggling to get her kids to pick up their toys after playtime. She came to the conclusion that they simply had too many toys to handle.
She took away most and let them have a few and she would slowly add one toy back in at a time to see how many toys they can handle without feeling overwhelmed.
It is so much less stressful for a child to pick up 5 toys rather than 15. This doesn’t mean they can’t have a lot of toys.
You can always switch around the toys to keep them entertained just not at the same time since more often than not, they won’t be playing with every single toy at once.
6) Less cleaning And More Time With Family
Since you will have fewer things around your house, that means less picking up and cleaning and more time spent with your kids and spouse. You will appreciate the time and so will your family.
7) More Space
Having fewer items obviously means more space. Having more space in your home will let you feel at ease and not overwhelmed.
