1) Laundry Room Organization
We will start with organizing before decorating.
If you’ve read our previous post on pantry organization you know how we feel about leaving items in their original containers. It’s a big no!
Items For Organizing
- Baskets (MAIN ITEM)
- Glass Spray Bottles
- OXO Containers
- Labels
Moving everything to woven baskets and containers will already start the transform! (you can also use plastic baskets!)
The very first thing that we will do is transfer the laundry detergent. If you use pods as we do, you can put them in a container of your choice. (we use oxo containers and they work perfectly!)
If you use liquid detergent, you can choose to leave it in an original container keep it in a basket OR purchase a liquid dispenser specifically for laundry detergent! (linked below!) After your laundry detergent is put in the container you like, set it aside!
Next, transfer all of your cleaning supplies into clear glass spray bottles with labels. We purchased our jars on Amazon and the labels on Etsy. (links provided below!)
At this point, your laundry detergent and cleaners should be transferred to either a woven basket or a glass jar.
You might think that this is a lot of work transferring items from original containers to bottles and jars and if that’s the case you can keep smaller items in their original containers but put them all into baskets.
If you use dryer balls you can put them into clear containers. If you use dryer sheets you can either keep them in a bag or also provide a clear container to put them in! Having everything in clear containers will make it easier for you to find where everything is located at. Use labels to know exactly what is in the containers.
Here is what you should have so far:
- Detergent in OXO container
- Cleaning supplies in a basket
- Dryer sheets in an OXO container (or a container you see fit)
2) Laundry Room WallPaper

Your next step will focus on decorating!
If your laundry room is a dull color and you’re not much of a painter, we recommend using wallpaper!
We found a page on Etsy that sells hundreds of different wallpaper styles that are REMOVABLE! How amazing is that?! Be sure to check out their entire Etsy Shop; Scandinavian Workshop & their website; ONDECOR (we promise you won’t be disappointed!)
Wallpaper is easy to put on (depends on which one, and we’re linking ONLY the best!) and easy to change out if you ever change your mind! Make sure to put up wallpaper before hanging up any shelves or decor! After the wallpaper is up, your next step is to hang up your shelves.
3) Add Shelves + Hooks
Maybe your laundry room didn’t come with a shelf above your washing machine or dryer, in that case, be sure to check out Home Depot! They have amazing shelves and all you need is one!
On the shelf, you will put your baskets with containers and your jars with detergent!
If your laundry room is more spacious you can add more shelving where you see fit! Adding more shelving gives you enough room to hang up a clothing bar.
After you purchase your shelves, hang the first one directly above the washer machine and dryer. This is where you would put your laundry detergent your sheets and your cleaners.
If you’re not planning on hanging up shelves then try to use what you have! Maybe an old consul table that you can fit into your laundry room might be just the thing!
Remember to also add hooks on your wall for things like a broom and mop!
This far along this is what you should have
- Laundry detergent transferred
- Laundry sheets or dryer balls transferred
- Cleaners transferred
- You should have baskets
- Your wallpaper should be up if you’re going that route
- Shelves hung up
- Wall Hooks hung up
4) Give a Spot to All Items
Now you can start putting everything into a designated spot.
Main Shelf
- Basket 1 With Cleaning Supplies
- Basket 2 With Dryer Sheets/Balls
- Detergent Containers
Addition Shelf
- Basket 1 Extra Towels
- Basket 2 Extra Toilet Paper
Wall Hooks
- Broom
- Mop
On the shelf directly above the washing machine and dryer put your woven baskets with laundry detergent that’s in containers dryer sheets and cleaners!
For example, if You keep any extra towels or toilet paper in your laundry room make sure all of that has a basket and the designated spot!
5) Laundry Room Decor

You can now decorate your laundry room! Put what are two small plants on the first shelf. And bigger plants on the shelving above or on the floor! You can purchase signs from Hobby lobby Amazon or Etsy for your laundry room to hang up.
